Il suolo ospita numerose comunità biologiche che interagiscono tra loro e sostengono la vita dell’intero pianeta. Il pianeta Terra prende il nome dal prezioso substrato vivente che lo caratterizza.
Il suolo è un elemento caratterizzato da una matericità inequivocabile oltre a connotare un’elevata carica simbolica, oscillante tra mortalità e vitalità. La decomposizione è vitale per la continua rigenerazione del suolo e delle sue comunità biologiche.
Prendendo spunto dalla conversazione avviata con il progetto L’Eredità Presente (BAM, 2019), la performance rimanda direttamente ai continui processi di disintegrazione, decomposizione e ricombinazione che caratterizzano il territorio siciliano, dove l’oscillazione tra vitalità e mortalità è un fattore determinante.
La performance si basa su elementi presi in prestito dallo studio sulla pedologia, il campo che studia la chimica, la morfologia e la classificazione dei suoli, e la botanica. Poiché la botanica è una scienza multilivello che studia la morfologia, la fisiologia e la sistematica degli organismi vegetali, la performance segue le orme di alcune recenti ricerche in questo campo.

Lo studio della performance è stato ispirato e guidato dalle ricerche della botanica Anna Scialabba, del biologo Karim Ben Hamed, della storica dell’arte Suvi Vepsä e della filosofa Elisabetta Di Stefano.
